Iskra vehicle service station in Atyrau

An insulated service station hangar measuring 15.0 × 24.0 metres and 6.0 metres high, with attached canopies. The frames span the workshop bay over 15 metres with no intermediate columns: a vehicle can pull onto any bay without columns getting in the way. Four sectional doors along the facade, and a glazed entrance block for the customer area.

Structural solution

The structure consists of steel portal frames, sheeting rails and canopy posts, rafter beams, purlins and bracing. Spatial rigidity is achieved through rigid connections between all elements.

A workshop bay with no columns

The frames cover 15 metres in a single span — there is not one intermediate support inside. For a service station that matters: bays can be laid out freely and a vehicle can drive in and turn without working around columns. The eaves sit at 6.0 metres and the ridge at 7.9 metres, leaving enough headroom for a lift.

Four doors along the facade

Four openings for sectional doors were formed along the long side of the building — four independent entrances to the bays. Each opening is framed by its own structural detail, with dedicated sheets in the project.

Attached canopies

Canopies on their own posts adjoin the hangar — space for vehicle reception and short-term parking under cover. They are integrated into the main frame rather than added as a separate structure.

Two steel grades

Frame members, purlins and bracing are made from cold-formed profiles to TU 1121-001-87370346-2015, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mm high. Columns and rafters are paired 250 mm C-profiles, with 150 mm in the lattice. Two steel grades were used: S245 and the higher-strength S320 to GOST 27772-88 where element loads are greater.

Insulated envelope

The hangar walls and roof are insulated with sandwich panels — the envelope is closed in a single pass, with no separate insulation stage. The customer area is set apart by a glazed entrance block with a duo-pitch roof.

Load calculation

Static analysis was performed in the SCAD software suite. Loads were taken to SP 20.13330.2016: nominal wind pressure 0.3 kPa, design load on the roof frame 1.8 kPa — accounting for the snow load of the Atyrau region.

Assembled without welding

Frame members are connected with Ø6.3 self-drilling screws, and the column bases are fixed to the foundation with 12 × 128 mm wedge anchors. Welding and gas cutting of galvanized profile were not permitted — the zinc coating stays intact along the full length of every element. Areas damaged on site were restored to SP 28.13330.2012.
